UL Lafayette launches campus newscast called “ѻƵ Avenue”

The ѻƵ at Lafayette is hitting the airwaves.

UL Lafayette will launch its new, monthly newscast at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, when “ѻƵ Avenue: The News and Spirit of Louisiana” will air for the first time. The monthly newscast will be broadcast on Acadiana Open Channel.

Anchor Chris Welty, multimedia specialist for UL Lafayette’s Office of Communications and Marketing, said “ѻƵ Avenue” will highlight students, faculty and staff members, and topics related to areas such as research.

The newscasts will feature video packages that also are posted on the ѻƵ’s website, louisiana.edu, or social media, he explained. “We want to deliver content to as wide an audience as possible.”

The first “ѻƵ Avenue” will feature a segment on recent campus improvements, including the new Student Union, and the refurbished Quadrangle.

Another piece will spotlight Angelina Narcisse, 92, who has worked in ѻƵ dining halls for over 60 years, and is affectionately called “Mom” by many students.

The first “ѻƵ Avenue” program will be rebroadcast several times on AOC 1.

• 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2;
• 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5;
• 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6;
• noon on Thursday, Oct. 8;
• 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9; and,
• 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

“ѻƵ Avenue” will be rebroadcast on AOC 2 at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Acadiana Open Channel, or AOC, is a public access channel available to viewers whose cable provider is Cox or LUS Fiber.
